Product Detail

When used as instructed, Reef Buffer™ can safely raise the pH of your reef system to 8.3, eliminating the worry of over - shooting to a dangerous pH level. Unlike other products that only use sodium bicarbonate, Reef Buffer™ is formulated with a blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts. This unique salt blend gives Reef Buffer™ a pK of about 8.6 in saltwater. The pK of a buffer represents the pH at which it buffers most effectively. You might think a saltwater buffer should have a pK of 8.3, but the many organic acids produced by reef inhabitants lower the pH more than in non - reef marine systems. A buffer with a pK of 8.3 would result in a pH between 8.0 - 8.2. Reef Buffer™'s higher pK (8.6) ensures better pH stability in reef systems with a higher bioload compared to fish - only systems. Competing products aren't designed for the reef environment, so their pK is too low (usually pK 8.3), making it impossible to reach the right pH in saltwater. This product not only raises the pH to 8.3 but also boosts carbonate alkalinity. Net Wt. 1 kg (2.2 oz).

To use Seachem Reef Buffer, follow the instructions on the package. Generally, add it gradually to your reef system as directed. Make sure to mix it well in a small amount of water before adding it to the main tank. This helps prevent any sudden changes in the water chemistry. When handling the product, keep it in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight. Don't let it get wet or exposed to moisture as it might affect its quality. Regularly test the pH and carbonate alkalinity of your reef system to ensure they stay at the desired levels. If you notice any abnormal changes, adjust the amount of Reef Buffer you use accordingly. Also, remember that this product is specifically designed for reef systems, so don't use it in non - reef setups.
